New Curriculum: Best Practices For School Cleaning And Disinfection

As schools reopen, facility managers are focusing on providing safe and healthy environments for students and staff. Just this month, the CDC published a Toolkit for School Administrators to help them safety reopen with a cleaning and disinfecting plan in place. The right disinfecting plan, followed by the right chemicals and application can help keep schools open safely this fall.

The Right Plan

The CDC suggests developing a schedule for increased, routine cleaning and disinfection. This means modifying your standard procedures to accommodate more frequent cleaning and disinfection. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces (e.g., playground equipment, door handles, sink handles, drinking fountains) within the school and on school buses at least daily or between use as much as possible.

Limit the use of shared objects (e.g., gym or physical education equipment, art supplies, toys, games, computers) when possible, or clean and disinfect between use. Ensure safe and correct use and storage of cleaning and disinfection products, including storing products securely away from children. Use products that meet EPA disinfection criteria.
