What is Epoxy?

Epoxy is a resinous coating that is chemically distinct from regular floor paints. Carpet Tech’s specialty flooring craftsmen use a two-part epoxy system - a combination of polymer resins and hardeners, much like epoxy glue. When properly mixed, the epoxy resin and hardener react to one another resulting in a chemical bond with each compound and with the floor itself. The chemical bond creates a resilient coating material that is durable, long-lasting, safe, and beautiful.

All epoxies are not the same. Carpet Tech uses different epoxies for different chemical resistance, based on traffic, aesthetics, and functionality.

Epoxy Flooring Coating Application Process

Every Epoxy floor is unique. Depending on the room, usage, and personal preface, Carpet Tech consults with you, listening to your input, and then presents you with options that fit your needs and taste.  

The success of an epoxy-coated floor is largely based on thorough and proper preparation. The ground must be free of solvents, grease, and other debris. Carpet Tech uses specialized cleaning materials and equipment to prepare the surface prior to installing epoxy. All surface cracks, spalls, and pitting must be repaired prior to coating. It’s important that the base floor be as blemish-free as possible to create a smooth surface for the epoxy to permanently bond to.  

Carpet Tech installs only when temperatures and humidity are within range for a successful cure. This ensures the epoxy can perform and last as long as it is designed to. Epoxy coatings have different chemical makeups and thicknesses to meet your budget and perform for what the flooring is used for.
