If you’ve been sticking with our blogs over the past couple of months, you’re probably well aware of the milestone that we’ve reached this year. In case you haven’t, 2019 officially marks 25 years of Carpet Tech!
This month, we’re keeping the celebration train rolling by taking a look back on the evolution of how we do what we do best. With over two decades now securely under our belt, we’ve seen just about everything when it comes to carpet cleaning, and advancements in technology over the years have allowed us to better serve you and your home or business.
We recently sat down with one of our crew managers, Blaze Bingham, to get his insight into how things have changed!
HOW WOULD YOU SAY CARPET CLEANING EQUIPMENT HAS EVOLVED SINCE CARPET TECH BEGAN BACK IN 1994?
Our equipment has evolved as technology has evolved. The equipment that we use now is more self-contained, more user-friendly and, best of all, offers much better performance. All equipment now has the technician in mind. Not only does it clean more thoroughly, but it’s also much easier to use and maintain by our technicians.
WHAT ABOUT THE CHEMICALS THAT WE USE? HOW HAVE THOSE CHANGED?
Chemicals have become more targeted for what they are intended to be used on. All carpets require different treatment, and there are no more ‘all-in-one’ products. Over time, we have gotten away from residues, but most jobs need some sort of chemical treatment in high-traffic areas.
HAS THE CARPET CLEANING PROCESS BECOME GREENER OVER THE YEARS?
Yes! Most of the chemicals that we use are environmentally friendly. The ones that are not are rarely used, and we take extra precautions when using them.
HOW EFFICIENT IS THE PROCESS TODAY COMPARED TO THE ‘90S?
Chemical, heat, agitation, time: these are the four keys to properly cleaning carpet. If one increases (the use of better equipment, for example), something else (i.e., time spent on a job) can decrease. Efficiency is a large part of what we do, but the quality is what has improved the most.
DO YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE OF PROFESSIONAL CARPET CLEANING?
Carpet cleaning will always be around. We are seeing a rise in other services we offer (especially hard surfaces), but if history has taught us anything, it’s that everything is cyclical. Who knows? Maybe we will see some orange shag carpet in the near future!
