Employee Spotlight: Melinda Pharies

Some know her as #3 calling the shots from the basketball court, some know her as mom calling the shots from home, and others know her as the boss calling the shots in the corporate office at Carpet Tech. On any given day you can catch Melinda Pharies in the gym, dropping her kids off at school, through the Starbucks line and then on the phone talking Carpet Tech – and that’s just before 8am.

Keeping up with Melinda is no easy task, but recently we managed to sit down with her for a few minutes. Here are a few fun facts you may not know about Melinda!

We’ll start with an easy question that you probably get asked a lot. Do you still find time to play basketball?

Yes, I still try to play in a league on Sundays

Is there anyone at Carpet Tech who could beat you in a game of one-on-one?

Heck no!

Being the mechanic.

What’s a song you know all the lyrics to by heart?

What are some small things that make your day better?

Being able to laugh at people doing goofy things in the office and seeing my children.

How do you like to start your day?

Working out and running.

What’s something you like to do the old fashioned way?

I still like to handwrite letters and take notes on a piece of paper with a pen or pencil.

How do you relax after a hard day at work?

I don’t relax because I go home to my second job!

If you were asked to give a 40-minute presentation right now, with no preparation, what would you talk about?

The why behind being competitive and having drive.

Tell us about something that people are obsessed with that you just don’t get.

Getting star struck. I don’t understand because I feel like everyone is just another person.

Australia

Looking back, who played the biggest role in setting you up for success in your career?

My family for always believing in me and providing opportunities to grow.

What are you absolutely determined to do?

Raise my children with respect and values to be successful in life.

What’s your spirit animal?

A lion. They are graceful, take everything in, but don’t get messed with!

If you could spend one day in someone else’s shoes, who would it be?

If I could go back and be in my mom’s shoes when she was raising six kids and compare it to being a mom today I would do it in a heartbeat!

Where is one place you feel most like yourself?

On a basketball court.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Coach and teacher
