Area rugs can be an enormous investment, and getting them cleaned safely is not always an easy job. Levi Bond is one of Carpet Tech’s IICRC certified technicians and a rug care specialist. With over a decade of experience, Bond has mastered the art of rug cleaning, a process that requires a state-of-the-art facility, specialized equipment, and a deep knowledge and skillset to effectively clean and restore even the most precious Persian or heirloom rugs.
“Even if a rug doesn’t look dirty, it slowly gets dull and begins to fade with time, Bond says. “Whether the rug is cotton, wool, or even silk, everyday foot traffic on an already dirt embedded rug is what causes the fibers to wear away.” Bond suggests keeping rugs swept, beaten, and washed to keep them in pristine condition.
Bond uses a multistep cleaning process in Carpet Tech’s world-class rug facility, safety cleaning and preserving all types of rugs.
Carpet Tech uses a vacuuming/dusting process that gently vibrates to beat the dust out of the rug. This step is crucial. If it is not completed properly, the dust will get wet and settle deeper between the fibers, sticking to the rug foundation, weakening the structure, making it tear easier and shortening the rug’s life.
Rug Bath
Submersion cleaning safely flushes out the rug to remove pet urine, dirt, and spots.
Drying
Using a specialized tool called a water claw, Bond applies high-pressure suction to remove 98% of the moisture and any remaining contaminants from the rug before hanging to dry to retain its shape.
The final step is grooming, brushing the rug so that all the fibers lay in the same direction.
