Fall: It’s Time To Tackle Carpet Cleaning

Because of the increasingly inclement weather and the boots, shoes, and cleats that tend to drag the mess it creates into the house, fall is a time of year that has the potential to wreak absolute havoc on your carpet. Fortunately for you, it doesn’t always have to be that way. Follow these basic steps to stop the mess before it happens (or control it if it does) and keep your carpets shining bright through the fall and well into winter time.

REGULAR VACUUMING

Though the carpets in your home may appear to be clean, there’s always more than just meets the eye. In rooms that experience a lot of foot traffic, there’s always a higher chance for more dirt, dust, and other debris and micro bacteria to work their way into the fibers of your carpet. Failing to regularly vacuum these parts of your house can result in a larger, harder to deal with mess over time. We recommend vacuuming at least once a week to keep the mess under wraps and at an absolute minimum.

KEEP THE MESS WHERE IT BELONGS: OUTSIDE

What’s the best way to clean up a mess? Stop it before it even has a chance to happen! Outside doormats are a great way to stop all of that debris we talked about from making its way into your house and onto your floors. After a while of putting that doormat to use, it’s important to frequently shake it off outside to deter the build-up of debris, which could render the doormat useless. Instituting a shoes-off policy in your house is another great way to prevent the outside from coming in!

STAY ON TOP OF STAINS

With colder weather comes more hot drinks and nights inside, and with that tends to come more spills, accidents, and stains, especially during the holidays. In the event of a spill or stain, acting fast is the most important part of fixing them. Once spills have set into the carpet, they become much harder to clean. Keeping vinegar, detergent, or other carpet cleaners on-hand is a great way to lessen those tougher stains. If the stain proves to be too tough for home remedies, pre-treating the stain with warm water and detergent is a great way to prep your floors for a professional cleaning.

THE PROFESSIONAL TOUCH

Though DIY care is a great start and a great way to handle small issues, nothing beats the results of a professional carpet cleaning. At Carpet Tech, we have the tools and the knowledge to dig deeper than the surface and tackle pathogens and allergens that a few passes with a vacuum can’t reach, allowing you and your family to breathe and live easier. We recommend that carpets of all kinds be professionally serviced with our chemical-free hot water extraction process every 4-6 months in order to remove the toughest, most stubborn stains and keep your carpet looking like new.
