When it comes to cleaning and caring for your home or business, there are many obvious areas that require attention. But what about the things you cannot see, such as your air ducts, an entire network of pipes that circulate air for heating and cooling purposes? In addition to visible dust and molds, unseen and potentially harmful pathogens can hide in air ducts continuing to circulate in our indoor air.
Dirt and dust pile-ups reduce air quality and increase the amount of allergens your HVAC system produces in the air. A dirty system also has to work harder to maintain set temperatures which can damage a system and require costly repairs. Cleaning and disinfecting your air ducts regularly leads not only to cleaner indoor air, but a more efficient HVAC system
Here are three easy to spot signs that your air ducts need to be cleaned.
VISIBLE DUST BUILD-UP
Check around the outside of your vent covers, both outgoing vents and the air return register. Look for visible build-up on the vent covers. If you can see dust on the outside of the vent, there is likely much more inside. Shine a flashlight through the vent to get a better view.
SIGNS OF LIFE…
You may not see actual rodents or insects through your vents, but look for signs like nesting or droppings. These uninvited guests can cause major problems for an HVAC system and should be addressed swiftly. Keeping up with air duct maintenance can prevent critters, too.
Mold is not something to take lightly in your home or business and poses a serious health risk. Look for signs of water or moisture. If you can see or smell evidence of mold, contact a mold remediation professional like Carpet Tech immediately.
