Love cleaning the bathroom? Neither do we! Here are 13 quick and easy hacks to get your bathroom cleaner than ever. For best results, start at the top of the room and work your way down.
EXHAUST FAN
Use a can of air, aka keyboard cleaner, to remove dust from the outside of your exhaust fan. If you notice an excess of dust around the fan, it may be time to have your air ducts professionally cleaned.
SHOWER HEAD
Notice a lot of build up around your shower head? There’s a hack for that. Fill a medium-sized baggy with water and white vinegar. Dip your shower head into the baggy and secure it around the top with a rubber band. Let that soak for a bit before removing.
MIRROR
To get your mirror to shine without streaks, use newspaper to wipe away the window cleaner. First, wipe the mirror in a circular motion, then horizontal swipes, and finish with vertical until the cleaner has all disappeared.
FIXTURES
One of the most noticeable areas of a dirty bathroom are the sink and tub fixtures. Over time, these get covered up with soap scum, toothpaste, and residue from other hygiene products. To remove the stubborn spots and make them sparkle, put a dab of baby oil on a rag and wipe them down.
COUNTERTOPS
One of the easiest ways to keep countertops looking and feeling clean is to keep a container of cleaning wipes under the sink and wipe down your countertops once or twice a week. To remove water and soap stains from around the faucet, soak a paper towel in vinegar and wrap it around the base of the faucet. Let that soak for a bit before wiping down with your regular countertop cleaner.
TOILET
Everybody’s favorite! To remove stubborn toilet build up (likely from hard water) or a red ring on your toilet, drop in some baking soda and vinegar and let it fizzle. Cover the sharp end of a screw driver with a wipe to clean the hard to reach places around your toilet seat hardware. After the vinegar and baking soda has fizzled out, give the bowl a good once over with a toilet brush. When you’re done, place the brush under the seat so that it hovers over the bowl and let it dry completely before putting it away. This will keep gross bacteria and mold from growing in your toilet brush holder.
TUB
There aren’t many secrets to thoroughly cleaning a bathtub. It mostly takes some elbow grease. If you have a porcelain tub, many people swear by the product Bar Keeper’s Friend to cut through soap scum. Don’t forget to regularly unclog the hair! Once the hair is gone, you can disinfect the drain by sprinkling about a half a cup of baking soda down and then pouring in some vinegar until it bubbles up. (This is a good time to take the bag off of your shower head from earlier and simply pour the vinegar down the drain.) Follow the mix with really hot water to finish the job.
SHOWER DOOR
There’s something to be said for the sleekness of a solid glass shower door. But, oh my, are they hard to keep clean or what?! Even if you are diligent about using a squeegee after every shower, you can still see water spots. Until now! First, clean the shower door as you normally would. Then apply Rain-X Glass Water Repellant. That’s right, the stuff you use on your car windshield. Simply follow the directions on the bottle to help keep your fancy glass door looking like new.
FLOORS
Last but not least, sweep and mop up the floors. We recently covered ways you can deep clean your tile and grout. But the best hack around is to call the professionals!
